Renaissance retreats were born from a natural accumulation of knowledge & experience in health and wellbeing, and Emma & Neil's personal passion for health - especially food!
Between them they hold diplomas in personal training, nutritional therapy, yoga, sports massage and biomechanics, which they combine perfectly to provide an integrated approach in understanding the human body. They run a personal training studio in the UK but don't feel the industry supports their goals and aspirations for the health and wellbeing of clients. They want to offer something special but to do that they realise that they needed to be in an environment where change could occur, where mind and body has the chance to relax, replenish and focus.
One of the main focuses on the retreat is the power of food. As the Greek physician Hippocrates said “let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Emma, who is a Naturopathic nutritionist, lives by this statement and has used her knowledge to help others and herself return to optimal health. After coming off of the contraceptive pill, Emma didn’t have a regular menstrual cycle for 2 years. She conducted hormonal tests, practiced yoga and meditation, and made major nutrition and supplement changes to restore her cycle and subsequently her overall health. She is passionate that these methods can support a range of health implications. Neil too has benefitted from Emma’s knowledge. In 2012 Neil was diagnosed with Hemochromotosis – a genetic condition where the body absorbs too much Iron causing fatigue, damage to bones, joints, and the liver. There is no cure but as a result of being treated via traditional medical intervention and nutritional therapy, his condition is now under control.
As well as being a trained nutritional therapist, Emma is a food enthusiast so loves to experiment in the kitchen to make healthy food taste as good, if not better than ‘normal’ food. You can find her recipes and blog HERE. During the retreats there are many workshops led by Emma which include juicing, raw food, cooking for health, digestive health to name but a few. You will come away full of ideas on how to make fantastic juices and smoothies, how to make healthy food taste great and how it can serve your health for the better. Additionally, Emma has spent time in India learning traditional Vinyasa, Yin and Ashtanga yoga and meditation techniques, which she passionately believes contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
Neil brings together the combined skills of personal training, sports massage and biomechanics to coordinate the fitness and therapy aspect to the retreats. He is responsible for getting the heart pumping as well as massaging away the tightness in muscles incurred from bad habits and posture.
Renaissance retreats are designed to give you the real holiday your body deserves: the type your body will love and appreciate. Neil & Emma will share the best of their knowledge regarding nutrition, mindset and exercise and put it all into practice with their personally designed retreat programs. You will leave feeling inspired and restored with a sense of fulfillment and renewed enthusiasm for life.
